My cousin is graduating from college in a few weeks, so I’ve been trying to find a good DIY graduation gift. It’s kind of weird for my husband and I to just give him cash, so we wanted to put together something thoughtful that also wasn’t going to cost us a ton of money.

I had seen a few laundry gift basket ideas around the web, so I decided to tweak things a bit and make one of my own laundry pun gift baskets.  I’m going to show you what I put in my gift basket, and you can grab the free printable of the laundry pun tags for yourself near the end of the post.

Here’s the finished laundry pun DIY graduation gift:

My cousin is a pun-loving guy, so we thought a little bit of a tongue-in-cheek gift would be appreciated.  I think the final project turned out looking cute, and my cousin seemed to enjoy the gift.

Assembling the DIY Basket

I used All, Gain, Downy, Bounce, and Tide laundry detergents. I got all but one of them from Dollar Tree, so that made this a super affordable gift.  Since I wasn’t sure if my cousin would like the scent of all the laundry detergents, I thought it was also a good idea to get small, trial sizes.  And who are we kidding, trying to fit 5+ big bottles of laundry detergent would have made this a VERY heavy gift.

Thanks to a Michael’s Easter grab bag filled with a ton of baskets I got last year, I also had an appropriate basket just lying around. All the goodies fit just perfectly!

Here’s a closer look at all of the tags I attached to the laundry items.  They said:

  • Have LOADS of fun in the real world! (on the Downy)
  • This should TIDE you over for a while
  • Let the GAINS begin
  • BOUNCE for joy–you’ve graduated!
  • and You’re ALL done now!

I printed each tag on card stock and cut them out with my paper cutter.

I attached ribbon to each hole punched tag and tied them onto the appropriate bottles. All the bottles were then nestled into the basket.

If the person you’re gifting this basket to is going to a dorm or apartment where they’ll have to pay to do their laundry, you can also add in a bag of quarters as well.  This will up the value of the gift but will be a cute addition, in my opinion.

Want the tags for yourself? Download them all below in .pdf format! You can set your printer settings to make them print smaller if you would like. Right now, they are set for 2 per page, which is larger than what I printed. Also, these are for personal use only.  Hope you enjoy making your own DIY graduation gift!
