The end of the year means another awards ceremony. My school, thankfully, only has one ceremony per semester. For me, these are the worst times of the year. Well, except for all major holidays, state testing, and the whole Spring Break to the end of the year long haul. I’m not a fan of talking in front of adults, so presenting these awards are a little stressful. I can talk all day in front of children, but I just can’t seem to talk in front of adults. The end of the year awards are much more fun, though, because I know my students much better and am able to give awards more specific to them.

Assigning End of Year Rewards to Students

For these ceremonies, it is our job to assign and create our own awards. In a way, I like doing it because I have control over what each student gets. These awards are in addition to the perfect attendance, honor rolls, and positive behavior certificates. These are extra just from the teacher. Now, all of the students receive a different amount of awards. Some much less than others. Because this is the case, I like to create two awards per student. By doing this, I know each of my students get at least two awards. The first award is an academic excellence award. These include, but are not limited to, math excellence, science excellence, reading excellence, writing excellence, or social studies excellence awards. The second award is a fun award. I choose awards that fit each kid’s personality. They love it.
