I never throw a party without goodie bags or some type of take home treat for guests.  I remember how fun party favors were at my childhood parties, and I’m just not ready to grow up and give up this fun.  My daughter this year had a library themed birthday party (see library themed food ideas, book page decoration ideas, and library card invitation ideas). Thus, I had to find the perfect book party favors.  Here’s what I came up with!

Bookworms Printables

First of all, while this idea was not mine, the cute “bookworms” party favor bag labels were homemade by me.  I used Canva to create these bookworms printables in less than 10 minutes.

Then, using Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers gummy worms and small cellophane treat bags, I made small bags of these “Bookworms.”

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish Printable

I then paid homage to Dr. Seuss’ One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish and made card stock tags for these as well using Canva.  Turns out, I was able to make “red fish” out of individually wrapped Swedish Fish.  I was completely taken aback that these things came individually wrapped, but it worked great for my purposes!

I was able to use the same cellophane bags to wrap these treats.  Also, I used a stapler to attach the tag to the top.  While it wasn’t the most aesthetically pleasing way of sealing the favor bags, I don’t have a ton of free time these days!

DIY Book Party Favors

Lastly, my favorite part of the book party favors was these little books made out of Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme Candy Snack Size Bars.  They were a little more time intensive to make, but I love the way they turned out!

I first started with scrapbook paper folded in half.  It was a little wider and longer than the chocolate bars.  Then, I taped the bars on the inside of the paper.  Two of them made the perfect book inside size.

Since my daughter was turning two years old, I made card stock papers that said “Chapter 2” and taped these to the chocolate bars.

The outside of the book was then titled “The Book of Kathryn.”  I glued these card stock pieces onto the scrapbook paper.

On the inside, I put a bookmark with my daughter’s picture.  I
was going to hand make my own bookmarks using my handy dandy laminator, but one day York Photo was running a good special on their bookmarks….so I decided to save some time and allow them to print and cut them for me!

Here’s the finished product:

The Goodie Bags Themselves

I lastly stuffed all the treats into pink paper bags and stapled paper doilies to the top.  Then using a heart paper punch, I made hearts out of the same paper that I used to make the mini books and her birthday invitations.  I glued these on and, voila!

Hope you enjoy these bookworm party favors and they provide some crafty inspiration!
